Email at your own name

Mailboxes on the domain your customers already know, a shared inbox the whole shop can answer from, and sending that tells you what happened to it.

Keep the mail app you already use

Why your own name

A free address tells your customer you are small

The address on your quote is the first thing a customer reads about you, and the first thing a spam filter judges. Both of them treat a name you own differently.

  • Your name on every messagesalaam@yourshop.co.tz, not a Gmail with your shop spelled into it. Customers can tell it is you, and so can the spam filters that decide whether your mail arrives at all.
  • One inbox the whole shop answersOrders and questions land where everyone can see them, so nothing sits unread in one person's mail while they are out. Everyone keeps their own address as well.
  • Paid in shillings, from your phoneTopped up by mobile money, priced in TZS, with no card and no monthly minimum. Run out and nothing is deleted; your mail waits until you top up.

What is in it

Everything a shop needs from email, and nothing it does not

Five things, and you can stop reading after the first one if it is the one you came for.

Your domain, set up for you
Buy the name here or point one you already own. The records that make mail work, MX, SPF and DKIM, are written the moment the domain arrives. Nothing to copy into a form, nobody to wait on.
Shared inboxes
One address the whole shop can answer from, with everyone's replies in the same thread. A question is answered once, by whoever is free, and everyone can see it was.
Sending that reports back
Every message tells you what happened to it: delivered, opened, or bounced and why. Your sending limit rises as your sending earns it, so a clean record buys you room.
Spam and phishing, handled
Filtering before it reaches you, remote images blocked until you ask for them, and senders on your own domain marked as verified so a forgery is visible.
An API when you need one
If you already have a system that sends receipts or reminders, it can send through Barua with a key and one call. Same domain, same reputation, same reporting.

Against a free address

What the free one cannot do

  • Your business name on every message, instead of somebody else's
  • Addresses that survive the person who made them leaving
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your own domain, which is what decides whether you reach the inbox
  • A shared inbox, so an order is never stuck in one person's mail
  • Mail you can move somewhere else, because the domain is yours

Three steps, one of them yours

How it starts

You do the first one. We do the rest, usually the same day.

  1. Message usTell us your business and the name you want. If you already own a domain, say which one. This is the only part you do.
  2. We set it upThe domain, the records that make mail work, your mailboxes and the shared inbox. Usually the same day, and you watch the first message arrive.
  3. Use it free for a monthYour real mail on your real name, with nothing to cancel. At the end of the month you decide, and you pay by mobile money if you stay.

What it costs

One month free, then a price you can say out loud

The free month needs a domain, so that what you try is your real mail on your real name. If you do not have one yet we will register it for you and it stays your property.

Every plan is set up for you. Nothing renews behind your back, and nothing is deleted if you stop.

How it is handled

The parts nobody should have to think about

The records that make mail arrive

SPF, DKIM and DMARC are generated and published for your domain when it is set up, with your own signing key. Nothing to paste, and no quiet failure six months later when a filter starts checking.

A message cannot reach your account

Every message is rendered inside a sandbox with scripts refused and remote images held back until you ask for them. A hostile mail cannot read your session, and a tracking pixel does not fire because you opened it.

On the same account

Mail is the one most people come for

When you need the others they are already set up: same domain, same people, same balance. Nothing to configure twice.

Storage

Files shared with a link that expires.

Movies

FAQs

Before you start

The questions people ask before they message.

What does the free month include?
A month of the plan you pick, set up on your own domain, with your real mailboxes and your real mail. It needs a domain because mail on a name you do not own is not the thing being tried. There is no card and nothing starts charging by itself at the end of it.
I do not have a domain yet.
Then we register one for you when we set you up, and it is yours: it stays your property whether or not you stay with us. Tell us the name you want when you message.
Why do I have to message instead of signing up?
Because mail on your own domain has a dozen small steps that are easy to get wrong, and a form leaves you alone with them. We do the setup with you, usually the same day, and you get a working mailbox instead of a half finished one.
Can I keep my existing address?
Yes. If you own the domain already, point it here and your addresses keep working. If your mail is with somebody else today, it can be moved across without a gap.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Barua runs in the browser on any phone, and it can be installed to the home screen. It also speaks IMAP and SMTP, so Gmail, Outlook or any mail app you already use will work.

Put your name on your mail

The first month is free with a domain, and we set it up with you. Nothing renews behind your back, and nothing is deleted if you stop.
